Statement regarding these works

After the start of my teaching experience in the 1960's, art making was largely put aside. I continued to read about and observe historical and contemporary art as my interest in popular culture, antiques and collectible objects grew. After several uninspired fits and starts, it was in 1983 that I seriously began again to make art objects. It was easier to work with brush and paints than to begin in sculptural media. I worked thru experiments in basic abstraction, geometric abstraction, abstract expressionism, and invented personal techniques. By 1985 sculpture incorporating found objects was recognized as being greatly satisfying, though painting continued along side of 3D work. It was about 1988 that I turned almost entirely to assemblage.

The paintings shown here are all from the 80's. Many of them no longer exist. They may provide some information to the interested viewer concerning my private evolution...as well as being precursors to paintings that still may be produced in future years.
